Supported Living

RSI maintains several supported living homes, with 4-6 persons per home. Support staff services are determined by the needs of the residents.

Supported living homes are funded with a combination of state funding, social service fees, and residents' fees (either from employment, social security, or supplemental security income.) Some homes receive HUD rent subsidies. Some residents receive additional funding through CAP-MR/DD, Developmental Therapy, Community Supports, or Case Management.

Residing in a group home and other shared living spaces is not unlike family living in many respects. Residents have basic self-care skills and household chores are shared by the residents of the home. Direct Support Professionals are available to provide varied degrees of support when needed.

Most residents work either in Chapel Hill or at Orange Enterprises, a sheltered workshop and vocational training program in Hillsborough, NC. Some residents receive ancillary services, such as psychological counseling, physical therapy, etc. through community agencies.
