Independent Living

The Independent Living program facilitates independence and community integration for individuals living in their own apartments or houses. Chapel Hill & Carrboro provide an ideal environment for persons with disabilities to live in the community, and an extensive bus system allows individuals to travel around the community.
RSI staff are available to assist with decision-making, financial management, and medical issues. Residents in this program have mastered most basic daily living skills and are employed either in the community or at Orange Enterprises.
Residents pay their own rent and living expenses, and supervision and administrative costs are funded by local and state MH/DD/SA (Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse) money. The Supervisors of Support Services provide regular contact, supervision, and support for the residents.
